Horology : A General Perspective

There are many definitions of horology availabe but in general horology is the art of science of measuring time. The word horology is derived from the greek word ὥρα, "hour, time" and Greek: λόγος, logos, "study, speech". Clocks, watches, clockwork, sundials, clepsydras, timers, time recorders and marine chronometers are all examples of instruments used to measure time. This time I would like to share my interest of the world of horology, my interest in watches. Let us learn some basic things about watches to be specific; its framework or in other words "anatomy" hehe. The pictures shown below are the watch "anatomy"

I hope the picture above is clear and understandable for all of us :). Besides that, for watches there are basically 4 types of watches that is basically available in the market.

a)  Analog watch
b) Digital watch
c) Combo/ana-digi watch.(combindation of analog and digital)
d) Pocket watch

The figures are as shown in the figure below:

Besides that there are two terminology used in watch strap which are strap and bracelet. The term strap refers to watch strap that made of rubber, leather, plastic or fabrics. Meanwhile the terms bracelet refers to watch strap made of steel ( gold, titanium, stainless steel etc.)

Well I guess that would be all for now, I'll update it again soon...

A story of how I met her

This is just a simple story of how I met my beloved girl friend.

It was August 15th, 2009, I was in my second year and that day is the day that my friends and I went to Kota Kinabalu, specifically Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) for an event called National Chemical Engineering Symposium (NACES). I still remember vividly in my mind, we arrived there at about 2pm. It was my first time to UMS and it is a pretty big campus compared to UTP. We settled down for registration for NACES and after that we went to the provided place to stay at near Likas stadium. The place was disappointing and my friends and I decided to stay at Azlan’s place.

After that we went back to UMS for NACES ice-breaking session. We went into a big hall (I forgot what’s the name already) and was divided into groups. Then, the ice-breaking session begins and we start to play some ice-breaking games and someone had caught my attention. She was there, standing and talking to her friends, with her sweet smile and I was like “wow that is one sweet smile”(my heart giggles..hihihi). At first, I taught she was my ex schoolmate because she looks familiar to me. Then, I said to myself “Alright Phil! Go and talk to her”, but I am too shy! (omg! Since when did I started to shy?-This is what my friends always say).

Then, there is this one game where a guy is picked and standing in the middle of a circle, and this guy have to run and pick up another person in the circle to replace him/her in the middle and the game is being played until the music stops. The person who is still standing after the music stops in the circle will get the “punishment” . There is one time I was picked as the standing man and I purposely pick a guy who sits next to her so that I can be next to her. Then, I was next to her and I spilled my guts out and said “Hi”, before she can say hi, some guys pick her up and I was like “argh!!!!!!!!! Potong stim btul!!”. And the game goes on and on until its ends. Cilakak btul! It was VERY DISAPPOINTING!

Then, it was break time, once again I said to myself “Alright dumbass go talk to her!” I was in doubt to talk to her. Then finally I said to myself “ Ala..lepas ni mana ada jumpa lagik”, then, with the two balls that I have, I spilled my guts out to open my mouth and used the WORST pick up line ever in human history “Excuse me, do I know you from somewhere?” and she replied “ Err..No” . Just like a tsunami, embarrassment flooded my face….Then just to cover up my shame, I said “ I look familiar la, btw, I am Phil Foster, call me ,Phil” (at the same time I showed my NACES name tag) “ And you are?” and she replied “I am Abidah”, since I was half deaf I answered “oo Adibah..like Adibah Nor la? Hehe” and she replied “ No, no I’m Abidah” (showed her name tag) again I am embarrassed ! It was like a pile of shame poured to top of me!!! Shameless, I just walked out of that door….Have you felt your penis inverted and your balls shrinking? Yeah that’s exactly how I felt!! I left NACES for good that day (I escaped the night activity because my friends and I planned to go to NACES to have a good time in KK instead of involving in the NACES activities).

The next day, August 16th, 2009, we went late for the NACES activity (at noon) and I was looking for her, unfortunately she was not there. Then, we went out again to pasar pilipin and shopping complexes. That day we only step our foot once in UMS.

On the final day on NACES, again my friends and I went out to Pulau Manukan and only come back to UMS at noon for closing ceremony. During the closing ceremony, I saw her there, talking to her friend and I saw a guy next to him, talking to her…I was like “ Oh Snap! She had a boyfriend!! “ but I calm myself down and said to myself “luckily I’ll never meet her again after this” but still, I still can’t stop looking at her (my heart giggles every time I saw her..ahh~~~)

Finally, NACES comes to the end and I have to go back to UTP. I still don’t want to give up and I swear to myself I must have her phone number! I don’t want go back to UTP empty handed!! Time is running out, before my friend and I went to the car, I went back to the closing ceremony hall to look for her again but she is not there!! So, I have a cunning plan in mind. Previously I has saw the facilitator of my group was talking to her and I plan to get the facilitator’s phone number and get her number from my facilitator. By God’s got the facilitator number already, and crossing my fingers, I hope my cunning plan works. (evil grinds).

Then I took my flight back to KL from KK and we reached LCTT at night. Then we took a bus to UTP and arrived in UTP at dawn August 17th, 2009. It was Monday, and I can’t sleep after arrived in UTP and I got Engineering Economics class at 8 am at D1. Upon my arrival in UTP, I just can’t stop thinking of her, her smile, it’s just gets me every time I remember how sweet her smile is. That very morning, I went to the Engineering Economics class and only a few people turn up to that class basically because most of us are tired from the trip and the class itself is just too bored.

Since boredom struck the hell out of me in that class, I went facebook online via my cheap nokia phone. When I was online I saw she wrote at my wall! I was so happy! I am so happy that I shit butterflies!! It turn up to be that we’ve had been friends in facebook for a while..hahaha..So, my cunning plan to get her number through the facilitator failed up until today instead, I get her number on my own via facebook and we’ve been in contact ever since. I get to know her more and more from the day onwards; from strangers to friends, from friends well we get closer and now she’s my best friend, my companion, my heart and my beloved girlfriend. We may be separated hundreds miles away but we are close in our hearts. I love you babe 

When I'm bored..

Today was a boring dah..sigh...I was too bored! I'm so bored I can hear the blood running in my veins! Then I decided to do something stupid....I tried to hurt Betty. I took a knife from the kitchen and put it on Betty's face and I scratch it as hard I as could!! Then I stop it after I felt satisfied scratching her. I pity her because she's not even a week with me. (Baru nak kesian). My intention is that, I just wanted to test how tough Betty is. After I wipe her face, I was amazed! Not a single scratch!Geez Betty! you are tough! woot woot!!!!
